HPGE: Student opportunities and activities
At WPS, our High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) program unlocks opportunities across four domains of talent, empowering every student to thrive. Whether their strengths lie in intellectual, creative, social-emotional, or physical domains, we provide pathways that challenge, inspire, and extend learning beyond the classroom, ensuring that potential is not just recognised, but nurtured, celebrated, and transformed into lifelong capability.
Intellectual Domain
Mathematical Olympiad (APSMO)
The Maths Olympiad challenges students to think deeply, solve problems, and discover the joy of mathematics beyond the classroom building confidence and a love of learning.
Writing Competitions
WriteOn and the Cumberland Young Writers Competition inspire students to unleash their imagination and share their unique voices through creative writing.
Book Club
Book Club brings students together to read, share ideas and explore stories in a fun and engaging way.
The NSW Premier's Spelling Bee
The NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee builds students’ vocabulary and confidence as they learn new words and showcase their spelling skills.

Poetry Slam
The Poetry Slam gives students an exciting chance to share their poems and express their views aloud with confidence.
Learning the Keyboard and Recorder
Students explore music and develop their skills through Creative Arts, including dedicated lessons to learn and play the keyboard and recorder.
Dance Group
The Dance Group helps students learn new moves, build confidence, work as a team, and perform in front of live audiences.
